Here is our recommended checklist to ensure you have all the correct PPE in place for that unexpected visit!

Airfed mask

An Airfed mask needs to be rated to DIN EN 14594:2018 any mask claiming to be used in a spray booth but doesn’t have this rating should NOT be used when spraying in a spray booth or room.

In this case a SATA Vision 2000 is a good all round Airfed which does a great job and is a reasonable price. This can also be purchased here.

Don’t think that by having an Airfed tucked away in the corner will get you through the inspection though! If the mask shows signs of being severely dusty and not maintained this will most certainly be picked up and mentioned. Air fed masks should have a record of maintenance such as replacing the built in filter and/or any seals around the mask.

Gloves - There is no specific rating or requirements for glove type however Nitrile is best for longevity with solvents and Rubber gauntlets are best when cleaning spray guns in gun cleaning machines.

Nitrile gloves
Nitrile gloves
Rubber gauntlets
Rubber gauntlets

Rubber gauntlets such as the ones above are rated to EN374-3 meaning they have good chemical resistance. Although the chemical resistance is far greater than that of gun wash thinners it’s always good to be properly protected when handling solvents for a long period of time.

Face shield
Face shield

Speaking of gun wash machines it’s also a good idea to keep a face sheild next to the machine to prevent splashes. I’m sure you have had thinners splash on you and the only way to describe it is serious sun burn on your skin and the feeling of razor blades in your eye balls😭. These can also be purchased here too

Overalls- some overalls on the market look very fancy and have fancy designs on however. Looking great doesn’t always mean being the best for safety. Overalls that comply to CE Certified Category III and EN1149 is a good start. Also fabric overalls that are NOT waterproof or do not protect against resins passing through is not great. For this reason we recommend overalls made from the material that these 3M overalls are made from. They’re breathable yet prevent paint soaking through should you spill anything. More info here

Finally just to include them however everyone should be wearing them is steel toe cap boots. They come in many types of boots/trainers and other styles.

So by now we have covered the body, face, skin and breathing. This is the first step to ensure the painter is protected.
