How to find the paint code on your Toyota.

If you need to order touch-up paint, match bodywork, or identify the original factory colour on your Toyota, you’ll need the official Toyota paint code. The code is usually a 3-digit or 3-character combination such as:

Toyota paint codes are normally located on the vehicle identification plate or VIN sticker.

Where to Find the Paint Code on a Toyota

1. Driver’s Door Shut (Most Common Location)

Open the driver’s door and look around:

  • Door jamb

  • Door pillar (B-pillar)

  • Lower edge of the frame

You’ll usually find a silver or black manufacturer sticker.

Look for:

  • “C/TR”

  • “COLOR”

  • “PAINT”

2. Under the Bonnet

On some UK Toyota models, the VIN plate may be mounted:

  • on the bulkhead/firewall

  • near the strut tower

  • near the radiator support panel

The paint code will again appear beside:

  • C/TR

  • COLOR

  • PAINT

3. Inside the Service Book

Some Toyota dealer service books include:

  • vehicle specification labels

  • colour references

  • VIN information

This is less common on newer models but still worth checking.

What Does “C/TR” Mean?

Toyota combines:

  • C = Colour (paint code)

  • TR = Trim/interior code

Only the first section is the paint colour.

Tips Before Ordering Paint

  • Pearl colours usually require:

    • base coat

    • pearl coat

    • lacquer

  • Metallic paints can vary slightly with age and fading.

  • Always compare the paint code from the vehicle itself rather than relying only on registration lookups.
